New Year, New Dreams - Behind the January Edition of Big Heart Press
As the calendar turns and 2026 begins, we’re embracing the magic of fresh starts, gentle reflections and big dreams. The January issue of Big Heart Press is here and it's all about stepping into the new year with imagination and hope.
This month, we’re celebrating the dreamy, thoughtful world of Our Dreams by author and illustrator Fátima Ordinola. With snuggling polar bears, sleepy tigers and dozing pandas, her beautifully illustrated bedtime book invites readers, big and small, into the cosy comfort of imagination and rest.
Inside This Month’s Issue
In this dreamy edition, we go behind the book with Fátima herself. She shares the creative spark behind Our Dreams, a story inspired by her love of animals, her sleepy cat, and her childhood wish to travel the world. “My dream was to make my parents proud,” she says. “I’ve fallen so many times in my life but I haven’t stopped believing in my dream. Keep dreaming, keep believing in it and keep being excited by it”.
Dreaming Together
As always, Big Heart Press encourages children to explore their own ideas through writing and reflection. This month includes a playful activity page where young readers can write down their dreams and wishes and even send them in to be featured in a future issue!
We also included a gentle colouring activity, where kids can bring the snuggling otters from Our Dreams to life in their own colours, a quiet invitation to wind down and wonder.
Share the Magic
We love seeing your little ones’ stories, dreams, and drawings—each one is a reminder of the power of books to spark big ideas in small hands. If you’d like to share your child’s dream, head to the last page of this month’s issue for instructions on how to send in a story and maybe be featured in the next Big Heart Press.
As we step into 2026, we’re dreaming boldly and inviting you to do the same. Whether your dream is to travel the world, become an illustrator, or simply read more books with the people you love, this is your year.
