We're National Literacy Trust Champions

We're National Literacy Trust Champions

We’re Proud to Be Literacy Champions

As co-founders of The Big Heart Book Club, we’re delighted to be Literacy Champions with the National Literacy Trust. It means we’re part of a national movement to boost children’s literacy and we get to bring our mission to life in even more meaningful ways across the UK.

Why This Matters

Reading unlocks opportunity. It builds confidence, expands vocabulary, strengthens empathy and shapes future success. Yet too many children still don’t have access to books or the chance to enjoy reading for pleasure.

A single book can change that.
It can spark curiosity, open new worlds and help a child feel seen.

That’s why our work as Literacy Champions feels so important — and so aligned with everything we believe in.

Here’s how we’ll be championing literacy over the coming year:

1. Hosting Pop-Up Reading & Book Events

We’re taking stories on the road, popping up at community spaces, festivals, libraries, schools and family events.  These sessions are all about reaching more children and families, sparking excitement around reading and giving everyone the chance to discover brilliant books. We will publish up and coming events on our Instagram.

2. Donating Books to Underserved Families

Many families don’t have books at home and we’re determined to change that.  Through community partnerships and local hubs, we’ll be gifting high-quality, inclusive books to children who may otherwise miss out.

3. Running Writing Competitions

To celebrate creativity and imagination, we’ll be launching fun writing competitions with amazing book prizes.  It’s a joyful way to help children build confidence in their writing and see themselves as authors in the making.

4. Donating Inclusive Books to School Libraries

Representation matters.  We’re committed to helping schools build book collections where every child can find themselves in a story. That means donating diverse, inclusive books to school libraries, especially in areas where budgets are tight.

5. More Community Reading Projects to Come

As we head towards the National Year of Reading in 2026, we’ll be expanding our activities, partnering with more local organisations and creating even more opportunities for children and families to connect with books.

Join the Literacy Movement

Literacy Champions are community volunteers who take practical action to support reading where they live from book gifting to running events, sharing stories or raising awareness.  Each Champion brings energy, creativity and heart to the mission of improving literacy for all.  We believe literacy is a right, not a privilege, and change starts locally within communities, parents, teachers, creatives and small organisations doing what they can, where they are.  If you want to become a Literacy Champion you can find out more on the National Literacy Trust website.
